Happy National Senior Citizens Day!

senior citizens2It might come as a surprise to you, but August 21st is National Senior Citizens Day. It sounded crazy to me at first, but it comes as no surprise when you remember that Seniors are the fastest growing demographic in the world. (A Senior Citizen is typically anyone who is older than 60.)

On August 19, 1988 President Ronald Reagan, with the support of Congress, declared August 21st to be National Senior Citizens Day. He said “For all they have achieved throughout life and for all they continue to accomplish, we owe older citizens our thanks and a heartfelt salute. We can best demonstrate our gratitude and esteem by making sure that our communities are good places in which to mature and grow older.”

On this day we should:

  • Spend some time with senior citizens
  • Show our appreciation for senior citizens
  • Do volunteer work in support of the elderly

Senior Citizens should:

  • Make sure to take advantage of senior citizens specials and discounts
  • Enjoy their day!

Also, if you are 65+ (or soon to be) you probably have already thought about medicare. Medicare is a wonderful thing that helps you cover the remainder of your healthcare costs that are not covered by the government.
